Dear Members of the Gustavia Yacht Club

Please note below our upcoming events in Monaco hosted by Commodore Sir Stelios Haji-Ioannou, in chronological order.

  • Monday 1st of May 2023 6pm-8pm Cypriot sailor and Olympic medal winner Pavlos Kontides will be joining us as our guest speaker at the Stelios Philanthropic Foundation Conference Hall in Monaco (14 Quai Antoine 1er, Monaco, 98000) with drinks and canapes. Pavlos became the first Cypriot athlete ever to win an Olympic medal for his country with a silver medal at the 2012 London Olympics in the Men’s Laser Classics. He is currently at the top of the Laser Sailing world rankings for the fourth time in his career. The Golden World Champion of 2017 and 2018 is currently in Hyeres ahead of the second World Cup of the season, which will take place between April 24-29 and is taking time from his busy schedule to meet with members of the Gustavia Yacht Club.   • Wednesday 3rd of May 2023 Sir Stelios is the president of another non-profit association in Monaco, the Air League of Monaco which supports aviation related good causes. The Air League of Monaco would like to invite the members of the Gustavia Yacht Club to a seated dinner at the Stelios Philanthropic Foundation Hall, Monaco, with a special guest speaker. To understand the unique place that our guest speaker has in aviation history it is suggested that members visit the Wikipedia entry of the story of the Gimli Glider pilot Captain Robert Pearson of Gimli Glider fame, who will be interviewed live on stage by the Patron of the Air League of Monaco Prince Alvaro de Orleans-Bourbon in the presence of Joel Bouzou, representative of HSH Prince Albert II.

The programme for the above mentioned dinner is as follows:

6PM screening of the Discovery Channel’s documentary on the Gimli Glider, click here to access the documentary (45:51 minutes duration).

6:45PM – 7:15PM Speech by Captain Bob Pearson and Q+A

7:15PM – 9PM Three-course seated dinner

  • Saturday 6th of May 2023 7pm dinner at the Stelios Philanthropic Foundation Hall, Monaco. This is also Coronation day of their Majesties King Charles III and Queen Camilla taking place at Westminster Abbey, London, in the morning and Monaco will be the host of the 2023 E-Prix during the day with the track remaining closed from 5am – 6.30pm.   • Wednesday 14th June 2023, 6.00pm drinks and canapes at the Stelios Philanthropic Foundation Hall, Monaco with guest speaker Michael Kurtz, chase boat driver and photographer. There will be a talk and a video screening of the 90-minute film “Setting hearts on fire-The Dragons”  Kurtz collaborated with the famous yacht filmmaker Tom Nitsch to create the film. Over the course of twelve years, the pair worked together to capture footage of events around the world. The film follows the story of dragons from their design in 1928 by Johan Anker to their status today as sophisticated race boats for high-end sailors. Dress code for all of the events is jacket and club tie for the gentlemen and smart dress for the ladies.
