Gustavia Yacht Club is proud to announce the renewal of its US $14,000 sponsorship for the Sint Maarten Yacht Club’s (SMYC) Primary School Sailing Program and Sailability Program for the 2025 – 2026 season.
The Primary School Sailing Program offers free sailing lessons to local students, integrating essential water safety skills and the Swim-to-Sail initiative for children learning to swim. This program benefits pupils from four Sint Maarten schools: Sister Regina Primary, Seventh-Day Adventist School, Leonard Connor School, and the ACE Foundation.
Additionally, the Sailability Program is designed to offer people with disabilities the chance to experience the joy of sailing, using adaptive boats and specialized instructors to ensure everyone, regardless of physical ability, can enjoy the sport.
How Gustavia Yacht Club’s $14,000 Sponsorship Will Make an Impact:
-
Primary School Sailing Program: Funding additional student places in sailing and swim-to-sail activities, allowing more children to develop water confidence and essential life skills.
-
Sailability Program: Supporting adaptive sailing for individuals with disabilities, providing access to specially equipped boats and instructors, and offering opportunities for inclusion and adventure on the water.
Quote from Sir Stelios, Commodore of Gustavia Yacht Club:
“We are proud to continue our support for both the Primary School Sailing Program and the Sailability Program. These initiatives not only provide valuable skills and experiences to the children and adults of Sint Maarten but also embody the spirit of inclusivity and community that Gustavia Yacht Club stands for. By renewing our sponsorship, we’re helping to ensure that more people, regardless of age or ability, can discover the joy of sailing and the freedom of the sea.”
